Give Your Site a Free Makeover
Apture is an amazing new plugin that you can add to WordPress, Blogger, Moveable Type or Typepad blogs, or customize the functionality for different content management systems. Enhance your blog posts and articles with interactive videos, images, Wikipedia, maps and more from 50+ sources without making readers leave the page.
Contextual advertising has created enhanced hyperlinks, called ‘blooms’. This means that a link can ‘bloom up’ into an image, a video, an article, a flash advert, and so on. When I link to someone’s Twitter stream, say David Armano, @Armano, Apture positions a profile icon to the left of the link. Mouse over the icon to bring up David’s stream in a pop-up. You can immediately see the most recent Twitter conversations and follow without leaving Sweet Tea & Straight Talk.
You will have to sign up for an account (free) at Apture, download and install the plugin, but the instructions are easy to follow and it doesn’t take much effort to make it all work.
Apture has two widgets, the Link Widget and the Embed Widget. Together they make up the Media Hub. The Link Widget creates an in-text link – whether it’s an internal link which opens directly on your page, or an external link which transports the reader to another website. The Embed Widget takes objects, such as images, videos, etc, and embeds then into the post.
Apture allows us to deliver not only text, but simultaneously images, videos, music, and other media to our readers.
Do you find the ‘blooms’ disruptive? Helpful? Use the comments or email me and let me know what you think.
