How will I learn in this workshop?

How do you learn best? Seeing it first-hand, listening to an engaging speaker? Working on it yourself? Once you know that, you’ll know whether this workshop will work for you.

“Kathy is one of those people that once you meet her you’ll wonder how she does it all. Her appetite for learning is unquenchable. She has taken the lead in training people from various industries into the new media of Social Marketing. But more important than her knowledge is her unique ability to connect with people. She’s a motivator, a teacher, a leader and one terrific lady!” ~ Pamela St. Peter

Yes, there will be talking. Kathy is very conversational. Some may say that’s an understatement. The session will be informal. In her no-geek no-hype straightforward style Kathy will ease your WordPress related stress.

Yes, you’ll see live examples. Kathy uses a projector to show you the steps as she walks through real examples of WordPress setup and plug-in integration.

Yes, you can try it yourself. You can bring your own laptop and access the wireless internet connection. It might be risky working on your live blog while learning first-hand, but you can always practice on a new blog setup. Then, you’ll be confident that you can do it again on the real thing.

Yes, you can ask questions. Hang around for the Q&A session to get specific questions answered. While Kathy may not be able to sit down and reconfigure your blog at the workshop, she’ll make sure you have the knowledge you need to be self-sufficient in getting the problem fixed.

When you leave this session, you’ll know how to get your blog set up the way you want it to be, and why you want it that way.

Helpful disclaimer: Whenever you work on your website, be sure to back up your current version. Nothing is more frustrating than breaking something and not knowing how to get it back to the way it was.

How can attending this workshop change my life?

If you are a beginner and have absolutely no experience setting up a website, Kathy will teach you how to start a WordPress site from scratch. (It’s pretty simple when you have someone guiding you through each step.) Once that is done, Kathy will show you how to use widgets, themes and plugins to customize your WordPress site. That part of the workshop caters to beginners and intermediate users.

After the break Kathy will teach you how to create relevant content, develop your strategy, and turn your website into whatever you want it to be – a business development tool, your very own online publication, a community hub, a multimedia journal and more. She’ll chat about what you want to accomplish with your site and tailor the session to fit your specific needs.

We will have lots of time for Q&A and one-on-one attention, so bring your laptops and as many questions as you want.

Who might benefit from this workshop?

Marketing Managers, Community Managers and Business Owners

blue pencils imprinted with WordPressIf your company, church, school or organization doesn’t have a blog yet, your website probably isn’t getting the traffic you would like. Adding a blog to your existing site creates a dynamic online presence that will enhance your website.

People looking to create an easy to use website

Maybe you’re completely new to WordPress.

Maybe you’ve dabbled but got stumped because you are a show me and teach me learner.

Whatever your stumbling blocks may be, Kathy will identify and address them right there and then.

Bloggers looking to tie their blog to all of their new social media destinations

Okay, so now you have a blog and/or website, a Facebook page, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, yada, yada, yada. How in the world do you tie all of these things together? She’ll show you.

Professionals currently between jobs – or planning to find themselves there someday

Nearly 1 out of 10 Americans in the U.S. are unemployed and nearly 1 out of 5 are underemployed. (Gallup Report, Feb 3, 2011) Resumes are piling up in stacks, and statistically, chances are yours won’t get noticed. How do you turn the odds of being discovered in your favor? Simple: Make yourself easier to find on the internet.

Professionals wanting to further their new media skills

Most professional courses cost a whole lot of money and don’t always give you skills you can take to work the next day (or take to your next job) and actually do something with. How cool would it be for you to be the only person at your office who knows how to build a WordPress site from scratch, make it do whatever you want, and then grow an audience where none existed before?
